One size diapers are exactly like they sound...one size fits all (or most). The One Size diaper has become very popular over the past few years because of it's cost saving ability. Instead of having to buy different sizes of diapers (S, M, L) you can now buy one diaper that with a few snaps and tucks will transform from a Small to a Medium then to a Large.
Most of these One Size diapers claim to be used from "birth to potty training". In other words 6-8 lbs until 30-35 lbs. Now these weight limits will vary by brand, style, and the size of your little one.
Little J.T. was 6 lbs 3 oz when he was born. He did not fit into my one size diapers until he was about 8 weeks old! Every child is different. But right now, they are perfect! I love how easy they are! I will surely be keeping the One Size Cloth Diaper in my Stash for a long time!
Almost all of the Cloth Diaper Companies now offer One Size Diapers in all different styles! Pocket Diapers, AIO, AI2, Hybrids, Prefolds and Covers all come in One Size! I will not do a list of brands because there are so many!
PRO's:
- One size needed from birth to potty training
- More cost effective (in general)
- No need to go out and buy different sizes
- May be a little more bulky than the sized diapers
- Some brands can be a little pricey
- May not be a perfect fit all of the time as your baby is growing

This is a really neat idea! I've never heard of the one-size diapers until now. My babies wore extra small preemie clothes, so they probably wouldn't have fit into one-size diapers for a while. I would definitely give them a try. I think cloth diapering is an amazing thing. You really have to endure patience. It is an act of love.

ReplyDeleteIt is great that there is a one size fits all cloth diaper even if it doesn't work for first born or right before potty training you are saving a ton of money on the in between stages.

ReplyDeleteI've used one-size cloth diapers with my little ones before. They are definitely cost-saving but they can be bulkier for smaller babies, something I wasn't overly fond of. Plus if your little one changes - ie thinner thighs, etc. they may not fit as well. So it's something to be aware of. But if you find one and love it, it can be well worth the investment.

DeleteI love one size cloth diapers. We mainly use bumgenius one size diapers. They are so easy. I have 6 lb babies; we usually start with newborn fitteds at birth until the baby is about 8-9 lbs. Then we will switch to one size diapers.

DeleteI like one size diapers for the cost efficiency. I prefer sized, though, for a trimmer fit under baby clothes. My favorite one size overnight solution for my chunky baby is a Happy Heinys OS stuffed with hemp and microfiber inserts. I have to put her in pajamas a size larger but it does the trick.
ReplyDeleteWhich sized ones do you like the most? This is true that some of the sized ones are a little less bulky! I love Happy Heinys One Size...I haven't tried any hemp inserts, have some bamboo that work pretty good too! Can't wait to try the hemp!
DeleteI like the sized Fuzzibunz but don't think they are the trimmest. Right now, the trimmest (and my favorite) sized dipes Chloe wears are Swaddlebees 2.0s. I always go for those when she has more fitted clothing. I love Hemp Babies inserts b/c they're super thin and super absorbent!
DeleteMy fuzzibunz are one size and they are ok...don't fit the best and are not very trim! I do have a friend who loves the swaddlebees 2.0 too!! I haven't tried them yet though! I gotta get some hemp inserts too, dying to try those!

I have not used cloth diapers, but it sounds interesting that the same diapers would work the entire time you little one is in diapers. If we have a second and I have the opportunity to stay at home I would be very interested in trying cloth!

ReplyDeleteMy baby is due in June and I already decided to buy a small stash of newborn diapers because he's likely to be a small baby. His daddy and I both were small. But I'm wondering when, if ever, do they grow out of one-size diapers? Do you need to buy a larger size eventually?
ReplyDeleteI use one size diapers on my daughter and have found that some brands {Fuzzibunz} are too small on her. BumGenius are WONDERFUL!! It ultimately depends on the baby.
ReplyDeleteWe use kawaii one size covers from birth. The were really big around the legs and my ds was over 9 lbs at birth. They really started to fit well at about 10 weeks. They are working well now but are really bulky. I am currently checking into some other covers that may fit a little trimmer. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteFor covers, I like to use the Flip covers and the oeko popo covers! Oeko Popo has seconds sales on their website sometimes where you can get the covers for $3!! They work really well and come in size 1 and 2 if you are looking for a trimmer fit:-)I have both of these diapers in my stash!
DeleteOne size diapers are also really awesome when you have 2 kids in diapers. That way you can just snap up the rise or unsnap it and use it on either child. My son was 8lb 14oz at birth and my one size diapers didn't start fitting until he was at least a month old.
ReplyDeleteWe use primarily one sized diapers and love them. That is the downside though, my son when he was born didn't fit in them either. It took him almost 3 1/2 months until he fit in them (he was a premie though). The bulk for us didn't bother me much. It didn't last long and it fit well in a few months
ReplyDeletei love love love OS diapers, but we did not start using cloth until my son was 7 months old. right now my favorite OS is fuzzibunz (not the elite, the previous version), though it does run a bit small. our bumgenius 4.0's will definitely fit longer than the fuzzibunz (the fb's don't have as much rise as the BG's)

ReplyDeleteI use almost all OS diapers. They are fitting good on the 10 month old 22lb girl that I keep. I like the Thirsties Duo AIO OS.
ReplyDeleteI use mostly OS diapers, but I have bought separate newborn diapers for our upcoming little girl. I really don't think OS diapers will fit at birth, even though they all say they will. There are definitely some that will fit sooner than the others like Rumparooz.
