Bamboo in Cloth Diapers? Yeap, you heard me right! Cloth diapers can be made out of bamboo! Let me enlighten you...
- Super Soft
- Breathable - great for circulation around the bum
- Antibacterial/antimicrobial/odor resistant properties
- Absorbent (60% more than cotton, can hold 3 times it's weight in water)
- Environmentally Friendly (bamboo grows very fast - it can grow up to a foot/day without use of harmful fertilizers or pesticides)
- Helps keep moisture away from skin = dry bum
- Hypoallergenic for sensitive skin
- Even stronger and more durable when combined with other materials such as cotton or polyester (ex. bamboo fleece, bamboo velour, bamboo terry)
Why Not?
- Bamboo tends to be a little more expensive than your typical cotton/polyester diaper
Types of Bamboo:
- Bamboo Fleece - combines bamboo and some types of fleece/microfleece
- Bamboo Velour - contains bamboo and a velour type fabric for softness
- Bamboo Terry - contains bamboo and terry cloth
- Bamboo Charcoal - contains bamboo and polyester, cotton, etc.
Washing Bamboo:
- Must first be washed 2-3 times in hot water with no detergent to rid the diapers of the naturals oils. After about 6 washes, your bamboo diaper will reach it's maximum absorbency and be "good to go" for your heavy wetter!
- Refrain from fabric softeners, bleach, and non-safe diaper rash ointments
- It is always best to follow the instructions that come along with the diaper

Have you ever used Bamboo Cloth Diapers before? If yes, what do you think? If no, why not?
I have some Swaddlebees bamboo inserts and I looove them! They help keep Chloe dry at night in combination with her microfiber inserts.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there were bamboo diapers. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteWell I didn't go this route with my grandson that we are raising but my niece has and she would'nt have it any other way.
ReplyDeleteMommie...Again
I didn't know there were bamboo diapers either. Very cool - and nice to know for when I have kids :)

ReplyDeleteI had no idea diapers can be made out of bamboo... Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know either. I'm going to pass this on to a friend.
ReplyDeleteI got a stash of diapers & I don't know what is in them. I think I have bamboo ones, either that or they are hemp.. how do I tell one tuype from the other, specially now knowing ther eis bamboo, microfleece?? ug!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Bamboo, especially it's softness and absorbency.
ReplyDeleteWe just tried our first bamboo diaper two weeks ago and I am in love! It is great for heavy wetters, soft, and just perfect!
ReplyDeleteWow! I did not know all that! I have used a diaper with bamboo in it but didn't realize that it was that much more absorbent and didn't even think to try it for night time! Definitely interested in getting some bamboo diapers for night now! Thanks! (Michelle Ferguson)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried bamboo yet. I really like hemp, but maybe I should give bamboo a try.
ReplyDeleteI buy bamboo fabric to make nursing pads, but I have never tried a bamboo diaper on my child yet :) I have been VERY interested in some WAHM on etsy that sell bamboo fitteds, just a little pricy for what I have to work with. So, someday I will try a bamboo diaper on my child.
ReplyDeleteWe have been using hemp with my ds for night time but I think I am going to try bamboo for daytime. Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteI just finished prepping a few Sbish snapless and OBF diapers. They are so soft and squishy. Also really love their flats.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a post about some of the negative press that bamboo has specifically that bamboo is not really a natural fiber since it has to be turned into rayon.
I haven't tried bamboo yet but have heard great reviews about them with regards to fewer stink issues than microfiber. I shall have to give them a try!
ReplyDeleteWe have a bamboo and hemp fitted that I LOVE. I haven't had any stink issues with MF, but I have a 'open the flood gates' type pee'er and MF absorbs fast. I told DH that I really want to get some bamboo inserts to put behind his MF so that we can stop doubling the MF and give him a little more trimness though.
ReplyDeleteWe have a bamboo fitted that I LOVE!! When we first got it, I told DH that it felt silky smooth like butter LOL He literally rubbed this diaper on his face and said that the baby was lucky it was so little or HE might wear it LOL
ReplyDeleteI have a few diapers I've made from some bamboo fabric but the fit isn't quite right so I'd love to try some quality bamboo in well made diapers.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE bamboo diapers!!
