Babies R Us, Target and Walmart, Oh Cloth!

The other day, I happened to stumble onto the Babies R' Us website when I realized that their stock and choice of cloth diapers had greatly expanded (or when I was registering, I never noticed how many cloth diapers they stocked because I wasn't planning on using cloth that seriously)! I was so impressed that I decided to see what other "popular" retailers had in their online stores as well!

Reasons to Shop Retail:
1) While the price point may be similar to many online specialty shops, these retailers tend to be bigger and more widespread, thus allowing more access to more people! The big retailers may act as a "gateway" to online specialty shops!

2) Most people register at Babies R' Us, Target or Walmart for their Baby registry. Friends and family shoppers may prefer these stores when purchasing baby shower gifts just because they are more comfortable with them. While other online cloth diapers offer baby registries, the general public may not be as inclined to purchase off a website they are not familiar with. In other words, you can get a lot of these name brand cloth diapers for free when someone buys them for you!

3) The more cloth diapers that are bought/sold in the big retailers, the more mainstream cloth diapering will become to the general public. Not that I want to take anything away from WAHM's or online retailers, they are still the experts:-). But if someone was hesitant on buying from a specialty store, but may try it if it's marketed by Babies R' Us, then why not?

  1. Ok, the stores near me really need to get on board with this. I live in Rhode Island. The closest Target has no cloth diapers, Babies R Us has one brand (Mobu, I think), and Wal Mart has nothing. What the heck?

    1. I agree with you. The store near me don't have much either! I have seen some diapers in babies R' Us, but the selection is much bigger online. I am hoping that eventually the online stock will eventually turn into in-store stock:-)

  2. I was surprised to see the Bumgenius on the Babies R Us website, and I added some to our registry on a whim - they were one of the first things someone bought, which was an even bigger(and awesome!) surprise! I would love it if they were physically in the store so maybe more people would be able to pick them up and see what they have to offer. I definitely like websites because of the variety and ability to rack up loyalty points and will continue to use them instead, but it is nice to know that cloth diapering has more of a chance to go mainstream!

    2. Awesome! I put cloth diapers, diaper sprayer, and wet bags on our registry and people wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole, despite buying us unasked-for disposables.

  5. This is awesome, when I heard that Walmart was supposed to be carrying some all-in-one style diapers, I quickly drove to our local Walmart. I asked an associate about them and she looked at me like I was from another planet. She said "you mean a diaper that gets pooped in and you can WASH?" Yep, the Lexington, KY Walmart has yet to experience cloth diapers.

I am so glad that I have an Amazon Mom account, so I can get diapers sent to me within 2 days and not have to pay for shipping ;-)

  8. What is the deal? The stores are full of anything and everything. So, why do they not stock cloth diapers? Everyone is talking about going "GREEN", using cloth diapers would certanily help "mother nature", ALOT. Just think of the money that people would save. I really don't understand.
