Bummas: My Wonder Wipes

I have been wanting to make the switch to cloth wipes for a little while now...but to be honest...I have been chicken! I mean there are so many questions to answer...what kind of wipes do I use? What kind of solution do I use? Is my baby going to get a rash? How do I store the wipes...wet or dry?

I put all my fears (ha ha) aside...and have jumped on the banwagon!! I contacted Bummas because their wipes look so divine...or heavenly (if you will) in all the reviews I read! Despite entering every Bummas giveaway from here to kingdom come, I have yet to win any. So when Bummas agreed to let me review their wipes, and offer some to one lucky reader (HINT HINT) I was thrilled!

So let the reviewing begin:

Just before I get on with my review, I just wanted to give you a little history of how and why Bummas came to be! Bummas was started by a parent who wanted an alternative to the chemical-filled wipes offered on the market today! When their son was born, they wanted something that would be easy to use and soft on the bum. Bummas was born.

The Down and Dirty on Bummas:
  • Eco-friendly, reusable, super soft wipe
  • 5" x 7" size
  • Won't pill, shrink or fade
  • 100% Cotton - Woven Velour Terry Cloth
  • Eliminate the use of Talcum powder

Bummas sent me a package of wipes called "The Wild Ones," (Love the name, right). "The Wild Ones" are a package of 1o Cloth Wipes in a variety of bright and exciting colors. When I opened up the package in the mail, I was so surprised at how vibrant the colors were...the pictures don't do them justice. not only do they come in these colors, but they also come in 4 other color packages.

Multiple Colors:
  • The Girls - pinks and purples
  • The Boys - blues and greens
  • The Calm Ones - earthy greens and browns
  • The Tropical Ones - bright and colorful
  • The Wild Ones - a mix of them all

Multiple Uses: (Who knew a Cloth Wipe could have so many uses!)
  • To dry the bum off (who wants to put a wet bum back in a dry diaper?)
  • To block "surprise squirts" (no need for explanation here)
  • As a wet wipe to clean the bottom (just add a little water, or your favorite solution)
  • Cleaning most other baby messes

Multiple Awards:
  • PTPA Media Award Winner
  • Circle of Moms Mompreneur
  • Connected Mom: We Love this Product

What would I change?

If I was to be VERY VERY picky...which I am not...I wish that the wipes also came in bigger sizes for bigger bums, and bigger messes! I think that the 5" x 7" is a little small for my little guy right now (15lbs). If he were to have a poopy diaper, I may need 5 or 6 of these wipes to clean his bum. They would probably work very well on smaller babies with breastfed poop!  I also wish bummas made more products…they have a few color choice sets of the wipes, but I would love to see some wipe bits or wipe solutions to go along with their wipes. I wouldn't mind seeing some designs or cute prints either! Besides that, I AM IN LOVE with these wipes! So soft!! You have to try these!

  1. I tried finding terry cloth at a fabric store, but it wasn't a velour weave, so I don't think the quality compares to these.

  2. Wow - those colors are incredible! I haven't taken the plunge into cloth wipes, but every time I have to buy new disposables, I kick myself for not just trying it.

Random question - since you mentioned alternate uses. We are using AIO diapers with snaps, and getting a little bit of leakage out the front of the diaper when baby girl is on her tummy. Its not an absorbency issue, more just gravity pulling it down through the gap that happens when she's on her belly. Do you think we could stuff a wipe up by her waist to give some extra blocking? Seems like it might help, but I'm wondering if there are issues that I haven't thought of. Again, not looking for absorbency, just an extra stopping point.

    1. Hmm...this is a great question...of course a wipe might help, but it might be better to dig a little deeper before you resort to the wipe...and again different things work for different babies. When you say that the leakage is out the front...do you mean up in the belly area, where the snaps are? Do you notice a gap in this area when she is not on her tummy?

Depending on the type of diaper you are using, you could try tightening up the waist snaps just a little bit...my son leaked a little up the front and I realized that the inserts was bunched up too much making a gap at the belly and allowing the pee to come out. Also if the snaps are a little loose, that could provide a gap as well. Sometimes, some diapers will never fit as good as other ones...also, I find that if the diaper has a waist elastic in the back, this sometimes helps to better fit around the front/belly as well! Hope this helps and sorry it was kind of me "thinking out loud." It is going to be one of those days:)

  3. I too feel like I've entered every giveaway imaginable so that I might be able to try these wipes! You should try flannel as well :)

  4. I use cloth wipes that I made out of flannel, but these look awesome. I imagine that this fabric would be nice on baby's bottom :) Oh, and I make mine larger than 5x7. More like 8x8.

  5. I also am a chicken when it comes to cloth wipes.. These are really colorful though.. I just think.. How would I ever get those poopy stains out to make them look colorful again? Oh well.. Great blog. God bless you. Judith Moyers

  6. I tried making cloth wipes myself. While it wasn't a complete failure, I'd definitely rather use these!

  7. I've been wanting to switch to cloth wipes so I cam just throw them in the wash with my fluff! I've just been reluctant to spend the money so was going to makr my own out of old receiving blankets. These sure look easier and nicer though :)

  13. I currently cloth diaper, but haven't tried cloth wipes... But I often think to myself whats the point in clother diapering but not wiping? So I would love to start using cloth wipes as well, these would be a great start!

  14. I have a few home made wipes, but nothing "official". I would have to agree with you, I think the size is a bit small. I won some that were 4x8 and I don't use them as they are just way too small. 5x7 isn't much better, just a little more square. I would love to see them bigger too!

  15. I wish there were more color combinations

  17. We are trying to make the switch to cloth wipes at our house i love that these wipes are so cute and colorful i love that the thread on the edges is also done in bright colors!

  18. I use regular wash cloths that are meant for babies, and they've always worked fine. These are gorgeous, though!

  19. My biggest pet peeve is that these bleed in the wash and need to be bled separately so your diapers (prefolds and flats in my case) don't turn pretty shades of blue, green, orange or pink. Blue was the worst offender though LOL

  20. I love the bright colors on these!

  22. I have the wild ones, but if I were to win, I'd pick the boys. I agree with all your thoughts. I wish they were a bit bigger, but I also found that with bigger wipes, poop gets onto my hand more. There colors are so vibrant.

  23. Very interested in trying cloth wipes! We're already experimenting with cloth diapering :)

  24. I've been using cloth diapers with both girls, but I still find wipes terrifying. Thanks for easing my fears.

  25. I have some of these wipes. I like them but I find they are kinda rough especially when air dried. I wish one side was a softer material. They are good for drying bums though.

  26. I have some of these and I like how the terry cloth "grabs" the poop. I agree though that they should come in larger sizes.

  27. I agree on the bigger size suggestion. I have a couple different styles of wipes and I always gravitate towards the big ones :)

  28. i love that these are natural fiber (i've recently realized that that is important to me!!) and the bright colors! i love the pretty stitching, too :) they sound awesome!

  34. I have not ventured into the world of cloth wipes yet. I think I would try the calm ones if the colors bleed.

  41. Love the colours and they look very well made. I have not switched to cloth wipes yet but these might sway me...now to convince the hubby, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  42. These do seem small for wipes, but I would use them for little hands or faces.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've never used cloth wipes (hubby asked for just one disposable thing for baby!) but I'm very tempted to buy some of these. If not for wiping baby's bum, for everything else! They looks so soft and nice! Maybe I can convince hubby to think twice about cloth wipes with these.:)

  44. We started using cloth wipes with baby 2 and I wish we would have made the switch earlier. The colors are so cute and these are so soft

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm using homemade cloth wipes (that are starting fray and probably aren't as soft) and mine are that size if not smaller but it made them easier to fit in a travel case.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I was naive in thinking all cloth wipes were the same..thanks for the review to teach me about quality. <3 Looking forward to getting some for my LO due 9/1.

  47. We love cloth wipes but I have yet to try Bummas. We've always just used flannel, which works but isn't always super soft! They do seem a little small...the ones we have are 8x8

    ReplyDelete
  48. Those look so soft! I made some out of regular cotton terry and they were kind of scratchy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have heard lots of good things about Bummas and would love to try them. Yes, I do agree that the size should be bigger so we don't end up using too many.

  50. I have not tried these yet but you are not the first that I have heard liked them a lot. My little ones have picky skin so soft is a must around here.
