6 Month Well Baby Check-Up: How Many Shots Does He Have to Get?

Over the weekend, my son had his 6 month appointment. He is getting so big! I wish I could freeze time and keep him at this age forever (well most of the time)! He is doing so well!

Here are some of the milestones he has been working on:
  • Sitting up by himself (still wobbles a little)
  • Standing up while holding onto me or other stable objects
  • Coos and "talks" all the time
  • Transfers objects from one hand to the other
  • Grabs and pulls things including my hair
  • Learned to throw objects
  • Rolling over all the time
  • Follows objects and voices
  • Laughs hysterically
  • Smiles all the time
  • Seems to recognize people and faces
Nothing has changed:
  • Still sleeping through the night
  • No teeth or any signs of teeth
  • Not much hair yet
Our Son is perfectly healthy, hitting all of the milestones for his age! I am so thankful that he did not drop off the chart for his weight as the doctor was worried about this. He decreased in his height percentile, but increased in his head circumference. According to the doctor these numbers will constantly be changing in the beginning, so nothing to get worried over!

Height = 10 percentile (dropped from 25th)
Weight = 5 percentile (stayed the same)
Head Circumference = 25 percentile (up from 10th)

The pediatrician did note that J.T still has a little Strabismus in his right eye. Strabismus is unequal eye movement, or where the eyes are not properly aligned. It is fairly normal for babies to have this up until 3 months, but after that time period, doctor's tend to worry that something else may be causing this lack of alignment. The pediatrician recommended that I see a specialist. He also got some shots...3 to be exact and a syrup! Mama hates to see little J.T. get shots:-( Little battle least the band-aids are cute.

We are still exclusively breastfeeding and it is going great! I am hoping to make it to 1 year! You know what they is for fun until 1. It seems like people think I am crazy for trying to exclusively breastfeed until 1, but it is natural...I mean what did people used to do way back in the day? The plan is to start and introduce solids (cereal, home-made baby food) at 1 year. So far so good!

Did you miss the 4 Month Check Up, Check it out HERE!

How did your little one fit into the "norms"?

Did you ever have to deal with Strasbismus or any other baby ailments?

  1. I think it would be so exciting to be able to track everything in a check up. I can't wait until I have kids :)

  2. My son was Exclusively breastfed till 14 months :O)while very draining on me he did great. I'm 5'8 and all my babies

  3. Aw- we have a little one to:) Great job on bf!! You rock:) I love that you are tracking all the visits. I wish I did this!

  4. My first son was always on the lower percentile for weight. Now that he is 4, he has caught up and well above the 50th percentile. I breastfed him for 10 months only, due to supply issues, and also started him on homemade solids at 5 months. Good luck with exclusive breastfeeding. I wish I could have breastfed longer.

  5. Congratulations on this wonderful milestone. That's wonderful that he's sleeping through the night! Great job!

  6. What a neat way to track his milestones! My boys have always been in the 90th percentile for height and weight... Big Boys! LOL

  7. So great to hear that he is doing great. I breastfed all of my six children until they were over 12 months. Keep it up!

  8. 6 months is one of my favorite ages. I am glad your son is doing well. Check ups are always fun. My kids have all been really tall/long babies and children.

  9. I always dreaded the check ups with shots involved.

  10. i cant wait to see my second childs six month age :D
